August 2014 – AFRICA - A third top doctor has died from Ebola in Sierra Leone, a government official said Wednesday, as health workers tried to determine how a fourth scientist also contracted the disease before being evacuated to Europe. The announcements raised worries about Sierra Leone's fight against Ebola, which already has killed more than 1,400 people across West Africa. The World Health Organization said it was sending a team to investigate how the epidemiologist now undergoing treatment in Germany may have contracted the disease that kills more than half its victims. “The international surge of health workers is extremely important and if something happens, if health workers get infected and it scares off other international health workers from coming, we will be in dire straits,” said Christy Feig, director of WHO communications. Dr. Sahr Rogers had been working at a hospital in the eastern town of Kenema when he contracted Ebola, said Sierra Leonean presidential adviser Ibrahim Ben Kargbo on Wednesday. Two other top doctors already have succumbed to Ebola since the outbreak emerged there earlier this year, including Dr. Sheik Humarr Khan, who also treated patients in Kenema. Rogers' death marks yet another setback for Sierra Leone, a country still recovering from years of civil war, where there are only two doctors per 100,000 people, according to WHO. By comparison, there are 245 doctors per 100,000 in the United States. The Senegalese epidemiologist who was evacuated to Germany had been doing surveillance work for the U.N. health agency, said Feig, the WHO spokeswoman.

Ad ogni modo è un piacere leggere dell’enorme e titanico sforzo per capire lo stato delle Società Partecipate da Stato e enti territoriali. Sforzo che ha dato un notevole risultato, ora sappiamo, almeno in parte rilevante lo stato dell’arte sui conti di questi “gioiellini” (che i tedeschi non penso vogliano comprare)

E sappiamo che dobbiamo raderli a zero, gioisamente.

Italy has entered that phase of zero-point growth. Italy’s people have been beaten by Europe and no longer expect recovery. But then, yesterday, the Statistical Office of the economic data for the second quarter of 2014 released economic numbers that ??froze a dumb look even on the faces of the hardcore pessimists. For the second time this year, Italy experienced a slump of its gross domestic product by 0.3% year on year.The economic data is so bad to the point it has not been seen for 14 years, that everyone no matter what side of the political fence is whispering or shouting the same world – “Recession!”

Come sarà il nuovo senato. Tra le principali novità della riforma c’è il rinnovamento del senato. I senatori non saranno eletti dai cittadini, ma dai consigli regionali. Nel nuovo senato siederanno 100 senatori (oggi sono 315): 95 rappresentanti delle istituzioni territoriali (74 consiglieri regionali e 21 sindaci) e cinque nominati dal presidente della repubblica. La durata del mandato dei senatori coinciderà con quella degli organi delle istituzioni territoriali. Il loro mandato durerà sette anni. I nuovi senatori conserveranno l’immunità parlamentare, quindi non potranno essere arrestati senza l’autorizzazione del senato stesso.

Il senato inoltre non sarà più un organo legislativo con pieni poteri: potrà votare solo per riforme costituzionali, leggi costituzionali, leggi elettorali degli enti locali e ratifiche dei trattati internazionali, leggi sui referendum popolari e il diritto di famiglia, il matrimonio e il diritto alla salute, come scrive Il Post. La camera quindi potrà approvare delle leggi senza che siano approvate anche dal senato. E sarà l’unica assemblea legislativa a votare la fiducia al governo.

DOMANDA DI ENERGIA ELETTRICA IN ITALIA : TRACOLLO CLAMOROSO .... CORRIERE : << L'ITALIA è IN RECESSIONE ... >> MAVA' ?

A luglio la domanda di energia elettrica richiesta in Italia, pari a 28,6 miliardi di kWh, ha fatto registrare una flessione del 3,8% rispetto a luglio dello scorso anno. Lo rende noto Terna. Depurata dall’effetto temperatura, la domanda di energia elettrica di luglio diventa tuttavia -1,6%: rispetto al corrispondente mese del 2013, a parità di giorni lavorativi (23) si è infatti avuta una temperatura media mensile inferiore di circa due gradi centigradi.

I 28,6 miliardi di kWh richiesti nel mese di luglio sono distribuiti per il 46% al Nord, per il 29% al Centro e per il 25% al Sud. A livello territoriale, la variazione della domanda di energia elettrica nel mese di luglio è risultata negativa al Nord (-5,9%) e al Centro (-3,3%), positiva al Sud (+0,3%).

Sempre a luglio la domanda di energia elettrica è stata soddisfatta per un 88,7% con produzione nazionale e per la quota restante (11,3%) dal saldo dell’energia scambiata con l’estero. In dettaglio, la produzione nazionale netta (25,4 miliardi di kWh) è calata del 3,6% rispetto a luglio 2013. Sono in crescita le fonti di produzione idrica (+2,6%), geotermica (+2,6%) ed eolica (+78,2%). In flessione la fonte termica (-10,1%), pressoché stazionaria quella fotovoltaica (-0,3%).

In termini congiunturali, la variazione destagionalizzata della domanda elettrica di luglio 2014 rispetto al mese precedente è stata pari a -1,1%. Il profilo del trend si mantiene su un andamento negativo. Nei primi sette mesi del 2014, la domanda di energia elettrica è risultata in flessione del 3,2% rispetto ai valori del corrispondente periodo del 2013; a parità di calendario il valore risulta -3%.

Possible carrier of Ebola virus being monitored in Wales

August 2014 – WALES - Britain may be facing its first case of Ebola. A person in Wales is being monitored by health officials following a potential exposure to the virus. Though the individual is not showing any concrete symptoms of the virus, the person has voluntarily limited their contact with others and will not be going to work, Public Health Wales (PHW) confirmed on Tuesday. It is believed the individual may have been exposed to the virus in West Africa. The recent outbreak of Ebola has so far killed 887 people across Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Nigeria. Over 1,600 separate cases of the virus have been detected throughout the region.

Liberian horrors: Ebola victim bodies dumped in the street, wells poisoned to kill off population

August 2014 – AFRICA - Relatives of Ebola victims in Liberia defied government orders and dumped infected bodies in the streets as West African governments struggled to enforce tough measures to curb an outbreak of the virus that has killed 887 people. In Nigeria, which recorded its first death from Ebola in late July, authorities in Lagos said eight people who came in contact with the deceased U.S. citizen Patrick Sawyer were showing signs of the deadly disease. The outbreak was detected in March in the remote forest regions of Guinea, where the death toll is rising. In neighboring Sierra Leone and Liberia, where the outbreak is now spreading fastest, authorities deployed troops to quarantine the border areas where 70 percent of cases have been detected. Those three countries announced a raft of tough measures last week to contain the disease, shutting schools and imposing quarantines on victim's homes, amid fears the incurable virus would overrun healthcare systems in one of the world's poorest regions. In Liberia's ramshackle ocean-front capital Monrovia, still scarred by a 1989-2003 civil war, relatives of Ebola victims were dragging bodies onto the dirt streets rather than face quarantine, officials said. Information Minister Lewis Brown said some people may be alarmed by regulations imposing the decontamination of victims' homes and the tracking of their friends and relatives. With less than half of those infected surviving the disease, many Africans regard Ebola isolation wards as death traps.

UK Ebola terror at Gatwick as passenger collapses and dies getting off Sierra Leone flight

August 2014 – ENGLAND - Staff tell of fears as jet from Africa is quarantined after the death of passenger who was ‘sweating and vomiting’ before she collapsed. Airport staff tonight told of their fears of an Ebola outbreak after a passenger from Sierra Leone collapsed and died as she got off a plane at Gatwick.  Workers said they were terrified the virus could spread globally through the busy international hub from the West African country which is in the grip of the deadly epidemic. The woman, said to be 72, became ill on the gangway after she left a Gambia Bird jet with 128 passengers on board. She died in hospital on Saturday. Ebola has killed 256 people in Sierra Leone. A total of 826 have died in West Africa since the outbreak began in February. Tests were carried out to see if the woman had the disease. The plane was quarantined as ­officials desperately tried to trace everyone who had been in contact with the woman. Airport workers faced an anxious wait to see if the woman had Ebola. One said: “Everyone’s just ­petrified. “We’ve all seen how many people have died from Ebola, especially in Sierra Leone, and it’s terrifying.”
