August 2014  –  AFRICA  - A third top doctor has died from Ebola in Sierra Leone, a government official said Wednesday, as health workers tried to determine how a fourth scientist also contracted the disease before being evacuated to Europe. The announcements raised worries about Sierra Leone's fight against Ebola, which already has killed more than 1,400 people across West Africa. The World Health Organization said it was sending a team to investigate how the epidemiologist now undergoing treatment in Germany may have contracted the disease that kills more than half its victims. “ The international surge of health workers is extremely important and if something happens, if health workers get infected and it scares off other international health workers from coming, we will be in dire straits ,” said Christy Feig, director of WHO communications. For the second time this year, Italy experienced a slump of its gross domestic product by 0.3% year on year. The economic data is so bad to the point it has not been seen for 14 years, that everyone no matter what side of the political fence is whispering or shouting the same world – “Recession!”

Come sarà il nuovo senato.  Tra le principali novità della riforma c’è il rinnovamento del senato. I senatori non saranno eletti dai cittadini, ma dai consigli regionali. Nel nuovo senato siederanno 100 senatori (oggi sono 315): 95 rappresentanti delle istituzioni territoriali (74 consiglieri regionali e 21 sindaci) e cinque nominati dal presidente della repubblica. La durata del mandato dei senatori coinciderà con quella degli organi delle istituzioni territoriali. Il loro mandato durerà sette anni. I nuovi senatori conserveranno l’immunità parlamentare, quindi non potranno essere arrestati senza l’autorizzazione del senato stesso. A luglio la domanda di energia elettrica richiesta in Italia, pari a 28,6 miliardi di kWh, ha fatto registrare una flessione del 3,8% rispetto a luglio dello scorso anno. Lo rende noto Terna. August 2014  –  WALES  - Britain may be facing its first case of Ebola. A person in Wales is being monitored by health officials following a potential exposure to the virus. Though the individual is not showing any concrete symptoms of the virus, the person has voluntarily limited their contact with others and will not be going to work, Public Health Wales (PHW) confirmed on Tuesday. It is believed the individual may have been exposed to the virus in West Africa. The recent outbreak of Ebola has so far killed 887 people across Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Nigeria. Over 1,600 separate cases of the virus have been detected throughout the region.

August 2014  –  AFRICA  - Relatives of Ebola victims in Liberia defied government orders and dumped infected bodies in the streets as West African governments struggled to enforce tough measures to curb an outbreak of the virus that has killed 887 people. In Nigeria, which recorded its first death from Ebola in late July, authorities in Lagos said eight people who came in contact with the deceased U.S. citizen Patrick Sawyer were showing signs of the deadly disease. The outbreak was detected in March in the remote forest regions of Guinea, where the death toll is rising. In neighboring Sierra Leone and Liberia, where the outbreak is now spreading fastest, authorities deployed troops to quarantine the border areas where 70 percent of cases have been detected. August 2014  –  ENGLAND  - Staff tell of fears as jet from Africa is quarantined after the death of passenger who was ‘sweating and vomiting’ before she collapsed. Airport staff tonight told of their fears of an Ebola outbreak after a passenger from Sierra Leone collapsed and died as she got off a plane at Gatwick.  Workers said they were terrified the virus could spread globally through the busy international hub from the West African country which is in the grip of the deadly epidemic. The woman, said to be 72, became ill on the gangway after she left a Gambia Bird jet with 128 passengers on board. She died in hospital on Saturday. Ebola has killed 256 people in Sierra Leone. A total of 826 have died in West Africa since the outbreak began in February. Tests were carried out to see if the woman had the disease.
